Leadership and Performance Development

"A key part of leadership is in recognising that leaders do not chose their followers; followers chose their leaders."

Flattening organisations create larger spans of control and greater responsibilities for front-line managers and team leaders. Their roles have changed from  limited administrative duty to leadership. Often the manager is highly skilled technically, but requires more grounding in management practices to be an effective work-unit leader.

Many companies have now organised into work teams led by team leaders who have assumed responsibilities formerly reserved for managers.

Leadership Development Series is a 19-module training and performance improvement programme covering the critical skills necessary to lead or manage a work group. The programme is designed to equip managers and team leaders with management skills, while building leadership competencies.

The programme comprises 19 modules; 14 half-day modules and 5 full-day modules,

Working Styles is a core, prerequisite module for most modules.

Meeting Leadership Challenges,

Creating an Empowering Environment,

Managing Conflict,

Communicating Effectively,

Making Valued Contributions,

Building High Performance Teams,

Developing a Collaborative Mindset,

Motivating for Results,

Setting Performance Goals,

 Interviewing for Selection,

Taking Smart Risks, Delegating and Directing,

Managing Time Wisely,

Coaching to Performance,

Reviewing Performance,

Assessing Training Needs,

Team Decision Making,

Problem Solving.

All of the modules contain bridging exercises that provide opportunities for on-the-job practice, leading to new competencies that support partnering with management. These exercises support the concept of continuous learning and, therefore, continuous improvement. The tactical role-plays and case studies in the programme are valuable for the learning progress of the participants.

The Series provides a wide range of tools that support the development of necessary, practical management leadership skills. The wide use of these tools has both immediate and long-range benefits. In the short term, skilled managers and team leaders can lead work units or teams to more productive results, support management strategies, and increase continuous improvement. The long-term benefit is organisational improvement that effectively moves strategy into action.
